So, i dont know how fire works, no science teacher ive had (im in gr 12) has been able to explain to me how fire works
so this is what ive told myself
Fire is the breaking and reforming of carbon molecule's bonds
breaking off of whatever they are part of, and being rebonded onto another molecule
heres my reasoning
Wood burns, carbon based life form People burn, again, carbon based life form (although we are made of alot of water) oil, comes from carbon based life forms, so is mostly just concetrated carbon
when you burn something, your heating it to the point that your causing the bonds between the carbon molecules and whatever to be broken
fire needs oxygen right?
intake of O2
output of CO2
therefore, the carbon molecules are being fused with the oxygen molecules
T/F?
thats what my brain does when im bored

Wow thats like the best explanation of fire i have ever heard. Actually its the only one. I'd say its sound pretty true.

I can't give you the chemical equation, but I do believe it is a reaction fueled by oxygen that starts from carbon being heated. You have the general gist, but they are not fused. Fused is the wrong word. A more appropriate word would be react, probably. Considering it lets out energy when they, not fuse, but react to each other forming new molecules.
