I'm going to be writing this while i wait for Dota2 Matchmaking. I come from a long line of gaming and I decided I would share my info with those why may need help. I started with Starcraft Broodwar. I was a total noob then but I was young , I than made my way to Warcraft 3 in which I was still a noob but was very good at mimicking what I saw others do. when I played Dota DH in RoC I grasped the concept of 2 min runes, last hitting, and how to chain my abilities in a few days. Sadly in my Warcraft3 days that was the extent of that. after a long break from PC I moved to console FPS's. I made my way back when Starcraft 2 was released. I played 1v1 and being older understood more in-depth about the skill in video games. I journeyed away from specific build orders and found myself able to compete with my own game play. I then started to play SoTIS(yeah I know ). I joined there inhouse community and enjoyed the friends I made and fell in love with the competitive aspect. After the developer took the game in another direction and the community fell to shit I went back to 1v1s until HoN went F2P. When playing HoN I was lucky enough to find an old Warcraft3 buddy and he mentored me on the ways of support and basic game aspects(such as map awareness and knowing heroes power levels) I became quite good at all the roles but was particularly good at support. When I got a Dota2 invite I played a few games and didn't like it. I went back to HoN and a sudden spike of trolls and noobs I decided I would go back. When I did I found that bot games were introduced and I learned the GUI of the game and got quite good. now as a general "pub stompper" I decided to join this community in hope that I can get the bonds and competitive feel I had back when I played SoTIS.
I decided to write some guides because the guide list is lacking until better guides are found maybe some of the community guides can be placeholders.

1. Overview
Viper is a hero that can do well in any lane. Viper excels in targeting out one unit and dealing massive slows and damage over time. With a combination of Viper Strike and Poison Attack any target hero slows to a crawl. Also with Vipers passives, nethertoxin and corrosive skin, you gain a great deal of last hitting ability and survivability. This guide will focus on using viper as a Carry/Ganker in the middle lane.

Depending on if your support gets a courier and who your going to be against mid your items may change.
First you want to get a Bottle, than you want Power Treads.
If your ganks are going well and you are beating out every lane pub stomp mode, save for Eaglesong(i will go more into this later)
If your ganks are decent and you are beating out the other mid player depending on your team go for Shadowblade or Manta Style.
If your ganking and not getting much from it you may want to go for a Vanguard.

End game your items other than a few will be standard.
Manta Style, Butterfly, Heart of Tarrasque, Black King Bar, and Assault Cuirass.

Aghanim's Scepter if you need to keep people locked down with your ult if they seem to be getting away. Monkey King Bar is you have to deal with a hard carry with a butterfly. Shadowblade if you need the escape to help you farm. Also Necronomicon or gem of true sight if invisibility is giving you problems.
4. Gameplay
When the game starts you will want to try to creep block. When you get to the river focus on harassing the other hero with your q and then focus last hits. DO NOT chase an enemy hero up his ramp to land a q on him stay on your side of the river unless the creep if past the ramp. When your creep are either attack his tower or both sides creep have died, head up the river to check the rune. if you see a rune such as regen, illusions, or double damage leave it there(unless you feel they may go for it) wait till you get your bottle and than get it. If theres no rune there its either taken or at the bottom rune spot. If the rune is haste or invisibility take it. With this rune check the top lane, if you see a low enemy hero with the lane pushed to your side go ahead and head over there. if not head back mid and attempt to get a strong lead.

when you have gotten your bottle you should be getting every rune and ganking constantly. don't be afraid when runes are down to head back mid and farm or push the tower. continue this process until you get boots. When you have treads switch them to agi if your doing well str if your having trouble. Continue to gank and farm until a few towers on either side have died. When this happens its more dangerous to travel alone and you do not want to get caught alone. depending on how your ganking phase went you should be around 2200 gold. at this time you make the decision how did i do? If you did well switch your boots to str and continue to farm and gank because if you have a large level advantage with Vipers passives and skills your still a force to be reckoned with. if you did okay but want to keep it safe go ahead and buy a shadow blade or yasha. The shadow blade will help you gank and escape while farming, the yasha is cheap and will boost your farming.

At this point your ganking should have slowed aside from the occasional over-extender. You at this time need to focus on your team fights. When in a team fight if you have no other initiator it has to be you. so either buy a shadowblade or a heart of tarrasque because this part can mean the whole fight. If you have an initiator let them do there job, wait for them to start the fight than come in and focus the enemy carrys. you may be thinking why carries? normally you would focus support in a team fight but because you have the ability to slow movement+attack speed you need to shut down the carries so your support can live. start by ulting a carry, if they have more than one focus your auto-casting on the other one. if there's only one focus him with both he will either run away or die. Either way if these happen you need to then help finish the rest of their team. DO NOT chase the carry if he runs away stay with your team and push he will have to go back to base and if you stay there's a better chance your team will survive and than he cant come back and 1v5 or 2v5 you.
5. Extra Information
The most important thing to do with viper is "Orb Walk". This is when your attack leaves your mouth you to or from the enemy hero than attack again. If the hero if attacking you attack him run away attack him run away ect.. if your chasing attack him run to his intended destination attack him and continue.

You want to watch out for Omni Knight. his magic immunity makes your Q and R useless. to get around this try baiting his W. try attacking his ally with your ult than when he casts his magic immunity switch to him with your Q.
Another to look out for is lycan. he doesn't lose movement or attack speed when in his ult making him hard to run from or chase.
Lastly be careful of manaburn and silence. Viper highly depends on his Q and without it hes basically useless.
