IHG Player Self Assessment Form

]Take this assessment survey[/url] and answer every question truthfully. These questions and answers generate a score (out of 1000) which translates to a letter grade. These rankings will be used to better balance our in-house games.

The ranks are from highest to lowest S, A, B, C, D.

After you finish the survey you will be given a grade. A mix of the assessment results and analysis of your in-game skill will lead to your "official" grade.

In the future we will have league matches, tournaments, etc., and your grade will be a key component in your starting ELO. This will help to balance out the in-houses along with the league/tournament matches with rough estimates of individual skill. Your grade will have the opportunity to rise, or fall, during these recorded matches.

More information about this will be given soon. This process is still in its infancy! Until then, get everyone in IHG that you are in contact with to take this survey. Your official grade will be sent to you via PM on these forums.

If everyone can participate and give suggestions etc. it would help me and SoliD a lot.

We are also looking for people with knowledge about creating scripts/programs to help assist in running a league.

What will this entail? Finals week is coming up, so I won't have an unlimited amount of time. I already set up in-board tournament brackets for our future tournaments.

This, of course, is a a nice step towards a ranking system. However, I think having people rank themselves always, and especially in this genre, has problems. It is very rare that people actually understand their skill level; they either overestimate themselves or underestimate themselves. In my experience you're going to have a lot of people answer 5's to things that they really are not even close to a 5 at.

..Actually don't do that, the biggest flaw in this kind of thing is that when someone is too shy / too overconfident to rate himself honestly, the teams might get horribly imbalanced. With the number of players in IHG it's going to take a while before our Jedi Council figures out who's in the wrong class.

I was wondering the same thing; where will we get to see our ranks? someone said something about adding it to our steam name; but how can we do that if we don't even know which one we are?

Ask Solid or Kowz on vent, they're able to check it. But I'm sure they will post it as a list sooner or later when the assessment is polished and we're ready to play using it to balance teams.

Also, I realised that the test lacks a lot of personal style information that also has some effect on the skill level. For example: Inability to predict hero movement, skill canceling or other qualities that might give away flaws that stop someone from picking heroes like Kunkka, Pudge, Lina.

Instead of making the assessment even longer, I'd sugest making a related, OFFICIAL thread where everyone will post the flaws (idea from the 'weakness' thread) that would help moderators in decreasing/increasing rank basing on it.

Just finished my entry, and answered as truthfully as possible. Or atleast, as truthfully for my knowledge. It's hard to rank something like that in just 1-5, but it is definitely a good starting point.

This would be a lot of work, and I feel that if someone was going to make a thread like that, it would have to be very soon, so they can atleast get started.

Honestly I think that the system is a tad redundant now, when there is maybe... 20/30 people, and only 15ish people on in the evening. (Don't know how many are on at night, I'm sure much much more.) Cause it is probably just gonna end up with people playing with each other, no matter what the rank.

The survey will be heavily changed in the near future. It will contain a section that asks about basic information, stuff you would need to know to do decent in our in-houses, then another section that will be briefly summed up by our "estimate skill level chart".

Also know we do plan to recruit more, but we have purposefully not recruiting at this time until we get a few things taken cared of, this being one of those things.

This is a really good idea to assess people in an organized way. I can't wait to take it once finals are over!

Edit: I like the ranking system a lot too. Reminds me of GSL haha except from C and lower.

I'll be sure to ask them later on; though I'm really curious as to when this is all actually going to be used and implimented in every day inhouses.

I wasn't expecting as many questions as that and found myself second guessing myself on everything. I guess that's the problem with self-assessments

It makes sense to use the existing rating system from the GSL as most people who play Dota are probably at least familiar with Starcraft or can pick up on it easily enough.

I know exactly what you mean. But I thought it was a pretty good test, and will prove to be accurate with maybe a few changes, or some external help to the ranking system, via the idea mentioned earlier in this thread.
